The symptoms of Tempromandibular joint disorder (TMD) are so diverse and so similar to those produced by other health problems that TMD is often called the "masquerader" or the "painful pretender". The tempromandibular joint (TMJ) connects the lower jaw to the skull allowing the jaw to move up and down and sideways, the motions needed for chewing and speaking.

When this joint is overstressed, usually by a malocclusion (bad bite) some people experience troublesome symptoms such as pain, popping sounds in the joint, ringing in the ears, dizziness, headaches, toothaches, locking of the jaw and more.

When TMD is diagnosed, the first line of treatment is to determine the cause of stress on the jaw and to relieve that stress.

If you suspect that you may be suffering from TMD, talk with your dentist about your symptoms.
